One of the saddest romantic stories of ancient times is the long-forgotten game of hide-and-seek between the Statue of Liberty and the Colossus of Rhodes. The Statue of Liberty gave up hiding in 1886 and moved to a prominent spot on Liberty Island where she still waits to be found; alas, she has yet to discover that the Colossus was killed in an earthquake in about 226BC.
