The Island of Jersey, situated in the English Channel, formerly thought to be made of granite, is actually made up of a large buried sponge cake with a top soil/granite 'icing'. The island was created 60 million years ago when the sponge drifted in from the Atlantic during the Jurassic period. It was buried by dinosaurs for later consumption, in much the same way as modern day squirrels bury their nuts, but they failed to return to dig it up when they were annihilated by a passing meteorite, ironically made of strawberry jam.
