The first incidence of a man holding an umbrella in a film was in the 1902 Thomas Alva Edison production `Man Holding an Umbrella', a fifteen minute film shot entirely on location in the streets of New York. The actor playing the umbrella holding man was one Henry Spleenbaum, who was better known for his otter juggling stage act and as the author of 'Otters I Have Known', one of Budapest's best selling books in 1897.
