Contrary to popular belief, the telescope is not in fact a complicated system of lenses used to make an object appear closer. It is instead a simple gravitational device which actually draws the object closer to the observer. Thereby, when one is warned not to observe the Sun directly with such an instrument, it is not for the sake of the user's eyesight but merely for the fact that such an action would lead to the complete and utter destruction of Mankind.
