Trilobites
have
gone
extinct
so
many
times
that
scientists
are
beginning
to
wonder
whether
there is an
evolutionary
advantage
in so doing. The
fossil
record
is
patchy
, but as
far
as our
best
estimates
can
determine
,
even
the
average
trilobite
species
becomes
extinct
at
least
four
times
every
ten
million
years
.
