Due to the volume of complaints about potholes, collision sites, and outdated signs, the Federal Highway Administration closed down Memory Lane for a period of 11 days, in July of 1989. After it reopened, commuters were frustrated by the addition of tollbooths, as well as numerous new police speed check points.
