Peter Piper, from the children's tongue twister 'Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers', was a real person. Peter gave up his agricultural concerns in 1540, and successfully ran for the position of Keeper of the Limes in the small English town of Strathweldon. Why he was associated with peppers is unknown, as he was a grower of aubergines.
