In the early 1800's Wales' deepest mineshaft collapsed leaving 250 men & women and 20 donkeys trapped beneath the surface. 204 years later, last Wednesday, the surviving descendants of the original miners were freed in a belated rescue mission. Having survived on a diet of moss and lichen, the 10 surviving donkeys are now recovering in Ebw Vale animal sanctuary.
