Since 1984, the Polish Football Association has operated a "circular" league system, whereby the division one winners go into division six, and effectively have to "start again" at the bottom of the league. In 1987 the loophole which allowed teams to be relegated from division six to the premiership was closed, after five different sides spent the entire season trying to lose every game on purpose.
