The disappearance of NASA's Mars polar lander was caused by an engineer accidently leaving the foil top of his yoghurt container inside a device used to measure the concentration of spoons in the Martian atmosphere. The electromagnetic field caused by this disturbance resulted in it being photographed by a speed camera in southern Utah, and promptly impounded by the local traffic police.
