The only technology that has not eventually been developed following an appearance in the TV series 'Star Trek' is the automatic sliding door. Physicists have claimed that the mechanism for such an invention is beyond the reasonable limits of possibility and that is much easier to use a transporter to beam through to the other side of a door rather than have it automatically open.
