Training shoes are in fact so called because they are in training to become fully fledged shoes. Most will only make it as far as a standard work shoe or ladies' high heel, but the top shoes will go on to become sprinting shoes or plimsoles, and from these the toughest and best will go on to join the elite and highly secretive ranks of the football boots.
