Mud was developed over a period of five years by scientists at M.I.T.. Only ten grammes of the stuff was ever intended to be made, but the process developed into a runaway chain reaction, which made exactly 23,101,538.92 tonnes of mud. As the scientists discovered that they could not find a single use for it anyway, they bullied and bribed all the first years to spread it all over the planet, so that no one would notice their drastically expensive mistake.
