To maintain an upright stance more easily on steep terrain, mountain goats in the Himalayas have evolved with their left legs approximately four inches shorter than their right legs. The benefit of stability, however, is offset by the necessity of moving around the mountain in one direction only. Those unfortunate enough to turn in the wrong direction, of course, instantly fall to their deaths.
