the term to beat around the bush comes from the dark ages when children would eat rocks and sticks and deranged people yell at them in tongues. the children would laugh and cry at the same time. the phrase was said for no reason, by a sick traveler into an empty gourd. It made no sense as half the words in the phrase didnt exist yet. No one even heard it being spoken. In fact no one ever even said it.
