Until a Worldwide ban came into force in 1979, the popular black currant drink Ribena was made from the sweat glands of the Indonesian Turtle Pig, a type of pig with a hard scaly "shell" on its back, now an endangered species. The glands of 1400 pigs were required to produce just one fluid ounce of the sweet sticky purple concentrate, while the rest of the culled pig's half-ton carcass was simply discarded as waste.
