In 1987 a Lithuanian boatman was found going round in circles in the harbour at Boston, Massachusetts. A spokesman for the American Coastguard told reporters that the man had mis-translated the phrase for "rowing across the Atlantic single-handed" from his Lithuanian-English phrasebook.
