The saying `Too many cooks spoil the broth' has its origins in the disastrous Broth Fair held in Munich in 1324. The Broth Fair traditionally marked the start of spring and was mentioned in Der Buch of 1274. The festival of 1324 ended dramatically when The Guild of Cooks rioted after one of their members had been unjustly accused of oversalting. Hundreds of homes were destroyed and as a result the fair was banned by the King of Prussia in 1326.
