The
saying
`Too
many
cooks
spoil
the
broth
' has its
origins
in the
disastrous
Broth
Fair
held
in
Munich
in
1324
. The
Broth
Fair
traditionally
marked
the
start
of
spring
and was
mentioned
in
Der
Buch
of
1274
. The festival of
1324
ended
dramatically
when The
Guild
of
Cooks
rioted
after
one
of their
members
had been
unjustly
accused
of
oversalting
.
Hundreds
of
homes
were
destroyed
and as a
result
the
fair
was
banned
by the
King
of
Prussia
in
1326
.
