The
Crimean
War
was
inadvertently
extended
by
six
years
when
new
supplies
of
lead
appeared
just
as the
ammunition
was
running
out. The
sudden
glut
of
metal
was a
result
of a
series
of
cost
-
cutting
measures
launched
by
NJ
Conte
that
included
a
switch
to
making
pencils
with
graphite
.
