All of the mountain peaks on earth are caused by other stars gravity pulling up on the ground. The distance of the star to the earth determines the height of the mountain. Hills and small bumps are stars that are very far away. Mount McKinnely and Alpha Centauri are so close that if one were to jump straight up from the summit, they would be caught in the gravity of the star and never come back.
